I have always loved Omega watches. Cindy Crawford was in Gaysorn Plaza years ago promoting the brand. I would always be vigilant about service and buy at a good dealer and have it serviced there. Too many people, including me, have had the guts swapped when in for service. My girlfriend in Saudi Arabia asked me if I wanted an Omega or Rolex for Christmas...

Whether it be watches, gold, jewlery, cd's, dvd's or anything else come to that, finding the GENUINE article is a different and difficult task in Thailand.
Anything with a quality name or brand is 90% chance of it to be a fake.

If you are not in a rush to get the watch, I'd rather wait to travel to Malaysia or Singapore. It's about 15% to 20% cheaper then Thailand.

Given the import duties, luxury tax and VAT in Thailand, add in the high probability that you'd get a fake and the zero chance of getting justice in the courts here if you did get a fake, I'd pony up the money to fly somewhere else to buy a luxury watch. Even adding the price of the airline ticket you'd probably come out money ahead.
Remember that even at an "authorized distributor" there is a supply chain and employees that could substitute a fake anywhere along the trip from the factory to your wrist.
If you end up with a fake (and a receipt) from Tokyo, Seoul, Melbourne, and probably Singapore, you'd have some recourse. If you end up with a fake from a shop in Thailand, you'd better get accustomed to a green wrist.

Thanks for that, i bought a Rolex in BKK about 10 years go and claimed the duty back on it when i took it out the country with me at the airport ( this made it a good deal )[/i] .
It's been serviced at several locations in Europe and is authentic.

As I recall, this exact scenario did occur at one of the major watch retailers in Gaysorn Plaza several years ago. A long term salesperson was found to be switching genuine watches for high quality fakes at the point of sale when he had a customer who seemed less than knowledgeable.

I too remember hunting around those basement stores at WTC at was bxjfgmrf. b55045 breitling source. Unfortunately the basement has been turned over to car parking and the 'Watches and Jewelry' section is just the usual suspects, Rolex etc .

It's based on the fact that a Swatch is likely more in his budget range, and hence, the throwaway comment to somehow rationalize that fact.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Copy watches but good quality?
03 July 2007, 23:08
Hi
Can anybody suggest where the good places in Bangkok are for GOOD QUALITY replica watches? I'm not really interested in the usual Rolex copies but the more unusual names like Frank Muller, IWC, Mont Blanc etc. An indication on price would be good too.
Any help would be very welcome.
Thank you in advance.

i usually get mine from a fella on patpong market, used him for the last two years.has all the brands your after,
most of the stalls have what your looking for,but check the quality as they differ vastly.and never pay what there asking for some of them start off at about £50.but i usually get mine for about £18 - £23.but the watches i have bought have been belters.
just cannot wait to get back there in september, for another round of haggling.
if you buy half decent ones you will have no problem selling them for £45 - £50,i have sold quite a few.

Thanks for your help Steve. I have done some more digging around and found the following locations are also recomended.
BMK shoping centre ground floor. Pratunam market. Suan Lum. Sukhumfit road & Sun Lum Night Bazaar.
Good luck with your trip.
We go end of August.

Re: Copy watches but good quality?

There are several grades of quality with copy watches. The copy watch sellers know them as 'A' 'B' or 'C' grade. Here is something to consider:
The police actually enforce the law for some copy watches, but only for the very high quality A watches, since those are practically indistinguishable from the real ones (until you open them up) and the watch companies don't like that at all. These are the 'A' grade watches. The ones you see for sale openly along the street at stalls are generally 'C' grade, or perhaps 'B' grade (i'm not entirely clear on the difference, except that 'C' grade is referred to as the cheap, tourist quality).
It's not always all that easy to purchase A grade watches unless you know the seller. They are for sale at MBK (try the third floor) from some of the shops that have cheap watches on display, but they may not admit it. Ask around. Even then, they may have you choose the watch you are interested in from a catalogue, retrieve it from somewhere, and then have you come back to take a look. It's obvious that they have to worry about a police problem, as when they show them to you it is done very discreetly. For reference, a basic Tag Heur of A grade quality will cost you around 1800 baht. You can bargain a little, but not more than 10-120% for the A grade watches. Bargaining for the C grade watches on the street is a different story.

Thanks tookay, as I was about to ask the different grades of watches and their prices....I last walked around MBK and couldn't find a Tag Hauger replica, guess you have to be in the know....only saw some 2nd hand Tag going for 40,000baht!!!. Btw, do they have catalogues even for replicas?? Am interested in the grade A ones...

I've always bought mine off the street, msotly getting very servicable long lasting watches with the occasional dud. I've always been told that MBK was the place for high quality fakes - and a t a bit of a price but pretty indistinguishable from the real thing. As an example i had a fake rolex some while back that needed a new battery and a high class local jeweller had to send it off for this to be done as he hadn't got the specialist rolex tool needed for this job!
You might find of interest www.yabz.com/recognize_a_fake.htm which describes the different sources and grades of fake rolexes

MBK is the best place I know of for top grade copies. Tags are in abundance, as are many others such as Omega. The problem is getting a shopkeeper who will talk with you. Yes, they have catalogs you can browse. You pick your watch, and if they have it, you will be asked to return in a little while to inspect it. I would ask for 'A' grade rather than 'Swiss' grade, since that seems to be the terminology that they use.

I would recommend MBK too.
We were in Bangkok just recently and my partner and I both bought Rolexs' from MBK.
But as someone mentioned on here, they don't have them on display. When we asked about Rolex watches, they give us a catalogue to look at, once we'd chosen the watches, they made a quick call and about 10minutes later someone turned up with them.
They must have been pretty good fakes because when we went shopping in Patong, Phuket a couple of the stalls trying to sell me a watch actually offered to buy my watch!
